Documents The database will provide all the documents necessary to manage a Trainee Leader's validaton. The documents below are provided as a temporary measure to cover those individual Training Advisers who cannot gain regular access to the database.
The Student Personal File
This is an electronic version of the file which is usually issued to each
new leader when they go through their initial interview. It contains details
of the various modules both for basic training and the more advanced topics.
It also lists the ways in which a trainee leader can validate each module.
Course Application Form
A course application form must be completed and sent to the County Training
Manager (see form for address) together with the appropriate fee before
attending the course. Just turning up to a course could result in disappointment
as many courses are filled to capacity.
Validation Form
The Validation form is completed by the Training Adviser as each module
is validated. Some of the modules will be validated when trainees attend
the Way Ahead weekend courses and recorded using a separate form but most
are validated with the training adviser. The Training Adviser will send
a Validation Form to their Local Training Manager when the trainee has
completed the 'Getting Started' modules (1,2,3 & 6 and Child Protection)
so that a permanent appointment can be applied for. At the end of basic
training the Training Adviser will then send a Validation Form for Modules
1 to 19 (less 4) so that the Wood Badge can be awarded.
Personal Learning Plan
The Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is completed by the Training Adviser
with the trainee as part of Module 2. This form lists the modules that
need to be validated, the options chosen for validation and the dates
for that validation to take place. In practice new trainees may not have
the knowledge to be sure which validation methods to choose and many Training
Advisers will modify the PLP during the training period.
Some Training Advisers may prefer to complete and keep the PLP electronically
so it is also provided as a Word document for that purpose.
